International Relations

Since 2003 GEICO has belonged to the Gynecologic Cancer InterGroup (GCIG), an international platform that currently comprises 18 cooperative groups engaged in gynaecological cancer research from all over the world. The object of this platform is to promote and conduct high-quality clinical trials in order to improve the survival of women suffering from gynaecological cancer, with five specific aims:

  • Foster international cooperation
  • Promote clinical research
  • Perform studies into uncommon tumours
  • Foment the practice of evidence-based medicine
  • Support the running of educational activities

Integration and participation in the GICG represented a major step forward in the research quality of GEICO, as since then it has taken part in some of the most important  international clinical trials carried out in gynaecological oncology.

Furthermore, GEICO belongs to the ENGOT (European Network of Gynaecological Oncological Trial Groups) platform, which is a pan-European network set up by the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) to coordinate and promote clinical studies in gynaecological cancer patients in Europe, conferring priority on academic studies, translational research, research into rare diseases, and multi-national clinical trials sponsored by the industry, to be conducted in Europe.

In addition, in 2010 GEICO went on to form part of the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), a US cooperative group that has been engaged for many years in research into gynaecological cancer and which has conducted a good number of the most important clinical trials in this pathology.
